Big plans for the New Year! In just two weeks, Gov. Bryant, Glenn McCullough Jr., I and other Mississippi officials will welcome the newly appointed Consul General of India to Mississippi. India is the world’s fastest growing country, soon to overtake China in population. It is also the world’s most populous democracy, a nuclear power and a close economic and military ally of the United States. Fifteen months ago in Mumbai, I had the honor to personally participate in the signing of an MOU to increase trade between Mississippi and India. India has since imported the first Mississippi poultry in several decades. Last month I sat down with Indian-American Chamber of Commerce legend KV Kumar, my friend Larry Harvey, Dr. Shivangi and Dr. Panicker, members of the Mississippi Indian community. During the official visit in two weeks we have arranged for key Mississippi agriculture and forestry groups to meet and address the India delegation regarding additional trade opportunities. These are very exciting times for Mississippi agriculture and commerce.
